DORCHESTER, MA — It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our friend and team member Bruce Seals. Bruce’s passing was unexpected and leaves us with a hole in our hearts that will never be filled. Bruce has been a member of our Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester family for over 30 years. He was a friend, mentor and legend to so many; Bruce was always willing to lend an ear, time and his talents with kids. Experience is something only gained with time, but a mentor provides insight and guidance. Bruce shared lessons learned, bringing humanity to problems, motivating kids to learn more and to do better. Bruce yearned to be the kind of person he needed when he was a kid. He will be missed more than words can say. Rest In Peace to our dear friend and colleague.

DORCHESTER, MA — Halloween looked different this year, but that did not stop BGCD from having lots of fun on Halloween! Following all of the COVID-19 regulations, our members were able to still do several fun activities throughout the day. Our Early Education members had an indoor scavenger hunt where each group took turns hunting for treats around their classrooms. Members also made Halloween arts & crafts and even had a glow stick dance party. Our Learning Hub members took part in a contest to see who could make the most creative haunted house with boxes and other crafts.

Halloween is always a very special holiday here at BGCD and we did not disappoint. Thank you to our amazing staff who stopped at nothing to make this a special time for members.

DORCHESTER, MA — Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester is providing safe, supportive and supervised space to assist families in our community during the time children are learning remotely. Our newly developed Learning Hubs support cohorts of k-8 students during typical “school day” hours. The Learning Hub program includes meals, technology assistance, academic support and guidance. Hubs are led by BGCD staff with a focus on supporting the children’s social emotional wellbeing as they adapt to virtual learning. BGCD is such an important resource in the fight against learning loss and a resource for families in great need.

During the day we are incorporating enrichment activities and getting outside as often as possible! With a focus on supporting children’s social-emotional well-being, BGCD staff are providing opportunities for children to engage in the arts, fitness and other health and wellness activities throughout the day.

DORCHESTER, MA — At Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester, our teens initiated their own Social Justice Program. In the program, they wanted to start a special art project to help express their thoughts and feelings during these unprecedented times. The teens were asked what BGCD meant to them. They are always encouraged to use their voices to speak up for what and who they believe in. The artwork that they created paints a beautiful picture of opportunity, diversity, human rights and so much more.

Check out our video below,  you won’t want to miss seeing these amazing and powerful pieces of artwork from our teens.

DORCHESTER, MA — Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester has finished up our final week of Summer Programming. Our members were very excited to be back at our Clubhouses with their friends and staff. They have been enjoying doing outdoor activities, swimming, gym and more. Last week, members of the Summer Program were able to tie-dye their own face masks which is a great way to encourage wearing them while adding their own unique touch.

All members and staff are required to wear their masks. Hand washing and sanitizing and adhering to social distancing practices is also required throughout the day. Tie-dying masks is a fun activity that helps members adhere to safety guidelines while keeping them safe.
