BOSTON, MA — A group of athletes from Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester’s Martin Richard Challenger Sports League were recently invited to attend Fantasy Day at Fenway Park with the Boston Red Sox. Our athletes took part in a fun filled day of clinic style drills, received their very own custom Red Sox jerseys, and ended the day with an epic dance party with mascots Wally and Tessie.

We had so much fun celebrating this day with our friends at the Red Sox Foundation and Best Buddies. Thank you so much to our friends at the Boston Red Sox for this incredible day!

BOSTON, MA — This March, 20 teen girls from BGCD had the opportunity to attend an event at the Harvard Club of Boston as part of a ceremony honoring Governor Maura Healey! Our members were thrilled to join the Governor at this special occasion as she was recognized by the Harvard Club for her many accomplishments.

From everyone at BGCD, we would like to congratulate Governor Healey and thank her for taking the time to speak with all of the girls who attended the event. We would also like to thank the Harvard Club for including us in this special event. Our members were honored to have been invited to such a historical evening. What an amazing way for our girls to close out Women’s History Month!

DORCHESTER, MA — On March 27th, BGCD recognized our 12 Youth of the Year Finalists in a ceremony attended by family, friends and staff! The 12 Finalists: Grainne M., Tim H., Deanna D.L., Waverly S., Callie A., Aissatou S., Jasmina P., Deshawn V., Joel T., Brian N., Lionel A., and Calvin N. were all recognized for their contributions to, and accomplishment within BGCD. We also announced Dashawn V. as our 2023 Youth of the Year! Dashawn will now represent BGCD in the Massachusetts Youth of the Year competition.

Thanks to City Councilor Erin Murphy and Representative Dan Hunt who provided proclamations to each of the Finalists from the City Council and House of Representatives respectively, and to our esteemed Youth of the Year panel of Judges, to Superintendent Nora Baston and the Bureau of Community Engagement for their participation.

DORCHESTER, MA — As a part of BGCD’s school vacation week, our Walter Denney Center hosted their Annual Living Museum to celebrate Black History Month. We had 12 members who chose to portray a distinguished African American in history, by dressing in character and describing their accomplishments and impact on society today. The event was Emceed by Club Member Noa T. who did an amazing singing performance to open the show and closed it with famous quotes.

Congratulations to all of the 12 members who did an outstanding job portraying their respective characters! Thank you to all of those who helped put this special evening together.

BOSTON, MA — The 2023 Winter Classic™ Legacy Project was announced at Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester this Saturday! As a legacy of the 2023 NHL Winter Classic™, The National Hockey League (NHL), Boston Bruins, and Boston Red Sox announced their support of our Dorchester Field House Project in partnership with Martin Richard Foundation with a check for $300,000. After the check presentation, BGCD members participated in a clinic and scrimmage game with Bob Sweeney, Tuukka Rask, Andrew Raycroft, and some of their favorite mascots.

As a part of the Legacy Project, BGCD members and parents were also invited to attend this year’s Winter Classic game at Fenway Park. Our members and families were thrilled to be representing BGCD at Fenway Park. They enjoyed taking pictures with Bruins mascot, Blades, eating delicious Fenway franks, and celebrating an exciting Bruins win.

A huge thank you to The National Hockey League (NHL), Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox for providing this once in a lifetime opportunity.

BOSTON, MA — This past weekend, a group of Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester members attended the Annual Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation Holiday Party which was held at Lombardo’s in Randolph.

Our Club was joined by 15 other Boys & Girls Clubs and youth organizations from the Boston area, and over 150 kids were able to participate in this holiday tradition. The kids enjoyed lunch, games with Nikki Alliegro, Melissa Davis and DJ Magic Mic, face painting from Fancy Faces of New England, and a visit from Santa.

DORCHESTER, MA — Boys & Girls Clubs Dorchester hosted our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for our members. Our staff decorated the tables and then prepared and served a delicious turkey dinner with all the fixings. It is so special for us to do this for our members and share together what we are thankful for. We would like to thank the 20 volunteers from TD Bank who assisted and made a donation that helped support the meal.

Thanksgiving can be a difficult time for families, but our incredible partners helped feed hundreds this holiday! Thank you to Steel & Rye restaurant owner, Dan Kerrigan for donating 100 pre-cooked meals and sides, City Councilor Frank Baker & State Representative Dan Hunt for donating 60 turkeys with produce boxes, and to CommonWealth Kitchen who donated 150 turkeys and sides, that were sponsored by Liberty Mutual.

With your generosity and partnership, BGCD was able to help our members and families have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

DORCHESTER, MA — Members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester attended a frighteningly amazing Halloween party at our Walter Denney Youth Center site located in Harbor Point. Throughout the night, our members were able to paint pumpkins, play carnival games, get their faces painted and dance to their favorite spooky songs. Those who were brave enough took a tour in the haunted house created by our very own BGCD staff.

Our Early Education & Care members also had a spooktacular time dressed in their amazing costumes trick-or-treating throughout our McLaughlin and Denney Clubhouses, collecting delicious candy from each office.

A special thanks to all the BGCD staff and volunteers who helped make this Halloween such a success for our members!

DORCHESTER, MA — Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester’s Welcoming Wednesday at our Walter Denney Youth Center celebrated Hispanic Heritage Night with the neighborhood from Harbor Point. Members, families and friends shared a night full of music and dancing, enjoyed festive food and together created a beautiful floral and weave mural on our fence.

To continue the celebration, BGCD Member Coordinator, Tara L. created a beautiful lobby display honoring Hispanic Heritage. This display serves as a learning piece to learn more about the Hispanic culture as our members enter the building each day.

ORLANDO, FL — Now in its 30th year, 150 children and chaperones traveled to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for an unforgettable week as part of the annual Rodman Disney for Kids Program with BGCD.

The program is funded by Rodman for Kids, and the many friends and partners who support their efforts. Rodman for Kids is dedicated to continuing Don Rodman’s legacy by providing members of our Clubs and our partner organizations opportunities and memories that will last a lifetime. Our Club members had an amazing time this year as they visited different parks including Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios, Hollywood Studios and more.

Thank you for giving our youth this once in a lifetime opportunity!
