BOSTON, MA — Team BGCD had fourteen runners who took on the challenge of running 26.2 miles at the Boston Marathon. Each team member had their own personal goal and successfully crossed the finish.

It was a beautiful Fall day as Club staff, family members and spectators cheered all the way from Hopkinton to Copley Square. Our runners have spent months training for the Marathon and helping to fundraise on behalf of the Club. So far, they have raised over $127,000 in support of our Clubs and we are so grateful for all of their efforts.

Congratulations to all runners for achieving such an amazing accomplishment and for being champions to all of us at BGCD!

BOSTON, MA — On September 25, BGCD participated in the 31st annual Rodman Ride for Kids!

Rodman Ride for Kids is the #1 athletic event in the country that helps support at risk youth. It’s not too late to support Team BGCD in this year’s Rodman Ride. This year we had 26 in-person Riders who did the 25 or 50 mile route as well as 25 others who participated in the “Choose Your Own Adventure” virtual Ride. Our team was made up of staff, board members, alumni and friends, all of whom showed up to help support programming at BGCD.

A special thank you to Boston Credit Union for sponsoring our Team, and thanks to all of our riders who worked hard to fundraise for our Clubs!

BOSTON, MA — As a participant in the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Arts Contests, BGCD submitted member artwork and photos in two contest areas: National Fine Arts and ImageMakers Photography. BGCA received almost 2,500 entries from Clubs and Youth Centers.

Selected artwork is screened at the regional level, and a limited number is sent to BGCA’s Atlanta headquarters for judging at the national level. Their decisions were difficult and resulted in 33 National Fine Arts and 20 ImageMakers Photography winners.

Naraya was named a National Winner in the Mixed Media Category for the 10-12 age group. Naraya’s artwork will be displayed at special events throughout the year and featured in BGCA’s online gallery.

DORCHESTER, MA — Last week, Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester partnered with Rodman for Kids to take 50 members on a magical trip of a lifetime to Walt Disney World. Since 1992 (with the exception of 2020), Disney for Kids has sent thousands of Dorchester-area kids on an all expenses paid trip to the Orlando theme parks.

Each year, the Club and Rodman for Kids provide a chaperoned trip allowing members to broaden their horizons and have a fun and memorable experience. Members who are chosen to participate have proven themselves to be leaders at the Club and in the Community through their excellent school attendance, personal efforts as well as their extracurricular activities.

Thank you to Rodman for Kids for their partnership, and for providing this amazing, once in a lifetime trip for our members.

BGCD and Elevate Youth have been partnering together for year-round Outdoor Recreation & Education activities for the past 4 years. We are so thankful to Elevate Youth for continuing to provide these fun opportunities to our members.

DORCHESTER, MA — BGCD’s Early Education & Care program was excited to host their very own 2021 Summer Olympic Games at BGCD. Our amazing Early Ed athletes took part in a series of sporting events, games and activities.

Our teams of athletes not only had the opportunity to compete with each other, but were also encouraged to cheer on their friends as well. BGCD Olympics included some challenging sporting events, but our athletes rose to the occasion showing great strength, agility, speed and athleticism. At the end of the day, all of our athletes were awarded gold medals for their efforts and achievements.

DORCHESTER, MA — In honor of the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games, BGCD hosted an Olympic Day event where our members participated in a series of minute-to-win-it type games. By wearing red, white, and blue and creating signs, BGCD members showed their encouragement and support for the USA Women’s Soccer Team and Olympic athlete & BGCD volunteer Sam Mewis. Sam is a devoted supporter of BGCD, hosting multiple soccer clinics for members, partnering with sponsors to provide donations to the Club, and most recently being named a 2021 New England Women’s Leadership Award honoree. BOSTON, MA — On September 25th, we will be back on the road for an in-person Rodman Ride for Kids! The event will feature a 25 or 50 mile route that will begin and end at Rodman Ford in Foxboro.

If you can’t Ride, you can still participate in the Virtual Ride and chart your own course on the Cape Cod trail or in your own neighborhood. There is also a special “Choose Your Own Adventure” option for those who would like to walk, run or choose an activity of your choice that will inspire others to support your efforts. Last year’s success was thanks to all of our friends who signed up to help support the Club.

This year the Ride has a very special incentive – If we get 25 participants to register for either the in-person or virtual participation by 7.14.21 and commit to raising at least $500 by November 1, 2021, the Club will receive a $5,000 match from Rodman Ride for Kids! This is a win, win!
