February Program Highlights
The month of February marks the mid-point of the Winter program and there are special events of note sprinkled throughout all core program areas. In our Education program look for Homework Help, One-to-One Tutoring and our Small Group Clubs to continue weekly (excluding the school vacation). We will also offer trips to the Harvard Museum of Natural History (2/22) and the Museum of Science (2/24). In our Athletic program our three Intramural Basketball Leagues and four All-Star Basketball teams will continue regular season play. Our two Basketball Clinic programs (Saturdays), Walking Club, and Beginner Gymnastics Classes will continue to meet weekly. Look for registration for the Savin Hill Baseball League (2/25). Our Social Recreation Group Clubs (Girls Group, Outdoor Adventure Club, Girl Scouts, Torch Club, Boys Group and Fencing Club) will continue to meet weekly. Events include a Super Bowl Party (2/4), Valentine’s Day Party (2/14), a trip to Snowshoe in NH (2/18) and a Fashion Show (2/22). Our Winter Arts Classes (Girls Art, Sculpture, Painting & Drawing, Photography, Teen Arts, Art Inspirations and Fashion) will continue meeting weekly while selected pieces from our recent exhibit will be sent to the Regional Fine Arts Exhibit in Southport, CT (2/10). In our Teen program the members of the Keystone Club will be attending a Tubing Trip to Nashoba Valley (2/23), volunteering at Cradles to Crayons (2/24) and hosting a Cultural Fair (2/25). Meanwhile we will be working with our teen members seeking summer employment when the HOPE line opens (2/1). In our Music Clubhouse our Music Lesson program (voice, guitar, drums, piano, bass) will continue to meet weekly along with Game Night (2/10) and our monthly Open Mic Night (2/17). At our Denney Center Unit located in Harbor Point the following events are on tap: the start of the Walking Club (2/1), a trip to the Museum of Science (2/3), Parents Forums (2/9 & 2/16), a trip to the B.C. Women’s Basketball Game (2/9), a Valentine’s Day Party (2/14), the monthly Munch & Mingle (2/17) and Black History Month Trivia (2/28). Lastly, in our Aquatic program the members of the Marr-lin Swim Team will continue weekday practices in anticipation of hosting the N.E.N.E.A.P.C. 10&U Meet (2/10) and attending the Worcester Invitational Meet (2/17). Also, we thank the Boston Youth Fund, who assist us in employing 35 teen members throughout all of our sites.

The University hosted an exhibit of works created by members in our Fine Arts and Photography Classes. Selected pieces from this local exhibit will now move on to the Regional Exhibit being held in Southport, CT as part of Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s National Fine Arts competition.

Intramural Basketball Program
The 14-team Winter Intramural Basketball program has completed week number three of regular season play with seven games held over three days. On Thursday, the first of three games in the Boys Low Rim division saw the Pistons defeat the Celtics 19-6. Darian Kavu (10) led the Pistons while Justin Carvalho (4) led the Celtics. In the second game the Hawks, behind Dana Monteiro (16) defeated the Lakers 34-33. Leading the offense for the Lakers was Keysawn Barnes (9). In the final game of the evening it was the Bulls defeating the Knicks 24-22. De’Andre Dew-Hollis (14) led the Bulls while the Knicks were led by Messiah Monteiro (10). On Friday afternoon the opener of two games in the Girls Low Rim division saw the Warriors top the Rockets 8-4. The Warriors were led by Mya Nunes (8) while the Rockets were led by the tandem of Victorina Fonseca (2) and Betzalee Matos (2). In the second game it was the Clippers, behind Micha Smith (14), defeating the Mavericks 19-14. Michana Smith (6) led the Mavericks. On Saturday morning, the first of two games in the 14 & under division saw the Cavs defeat the Pacers 39-37. Walter Dew-Hollis (15) led the Cavs while Devante Teixeira (17) led the Pacers. In the second game the Sixers, behind Mauro Barbosa (12) defeated the Nuggets 34-28. The Nuggets were led by Morris Barnes (10). “Learn To” Programming for Tots
The Club is gearing up for the 3rd session of our new “Learn To” programming for 3-5 year olds. The next session of classes will take place on weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings beginning the week of 2/6. Classes being offered in the 3rd session include: Learn to Swim, Music for Me, Basketball, Art for Me, a Parent/Child Playgroup, Puppet Theater (Literacy), Soccer, Science for Me, Music Exploration, T-Ball/Baseball, Gym for Me, Mad Science and Family Swim. Registration is ongoing and the 3rd session of classes will run through the end of March. Please note that there is a $35 fee for each 8-week session of classes. Prior to registering you will need to fill out a membership application for each child.
