Director of Resource Development


Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester is a leading youth development organization founded in 1970 to serve the children of Dorchester, Massachusetts. Today, the Club operates three thriving clubhouses and serves more than 4,000 youth each year. Our vision is to be the premier provider of hope and opportunity to the youth of our community by providing high-quality services through well-planned, sustainable growth.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester is currently looking for a Director of Resource Development. This individual will work with the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors to plan and execute resource development strategies and monitor progress against goals. Supports CEO in positioning Board to cultivate and solicit major gifts and grants from individuals, corporations, foundations, United Way, government agencies and others.

Key Roles:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the CEO, Board of Directors and Development Staff in the effective operation of all development activities required to fund Club operations and deliver programs within the community.
  • In collaboration with the CEO and Board, develop and implement a strategic plan for single and multi-year resource development efforts.
  • Generate revenues to align with Club budget and forecasts.
  • Manages development staff to ensure productive and effective performance.
  • Develop strategic alliances with funders, community leaders and local officials. Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families, and community organizations.
  • Increase visibility of Club development activities and maintain good public relations.
  • Ensure design and development of public relations documents and marketing efforts for use in the promotion of fund raising and education of the public, including press releases, website and social media.
  • Oversee and contribute to the grant writing process.
  • Responsible for special events.
  • Achieve annual fundraising goal of $3 million.
  • Work as a member of management team.
  • Maintain commitment to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester mission, vision and values.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with four to seven years’ work experience in non-profit agency operations, specifically in the fund-raising field, sales/marketing, grant writing or equivalent experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of fund-raising techniques, and sources of funding for non-profit agencies and organizations
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in grant writing, research and review.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups and other related agencies.
  • Knowledge of accessing and managing donor database.

SWIM COACH/INSTRUCTOR

DEPARTMENT:  Aquatics
REPORTS TO:   Aquatics Director
EXEMPT / NON-EXEMPT:   Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY/PRIMARY FUNCTION:  

To teach the fundamentals of competitive swimming in a positive environment and to provide instruction and guidance during training sessions.  Reports directly to the Aquatics Director.  May also receive feedback from the Director of Operations and the Program Director. 

WORK HOURS: This is a part-time position for 25/30 hours per week.

KEY ROLES: (Essential Job Responsibilities)

  • Design swim practices as outlined by the Aquatics Director and maintain supervision of the group at all times.
  • Attend swim meets and warm-ups as outlined by the Aquatics Director.   Assist with the set-up and clean-up at home swim meets.
  •    Maintain an area for non-swim team members to utilize the swimming pool.
  • Assist with the set-up of the pool for training sessions. Moving lane ropes and setting up backstroke flags.
  • Be enthusiastic and have fun.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must be enthusiastic, hardworking and be able to work with members of all ages. Must have a background in 3-4 years of competitive swimming or in educational teaching or swim instruction.  Must have thorough knowledge and rules of all four competitive strokes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Current certification in the following:

  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • ARC Swim Coaches Safety Training
  • First Aid

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:    Maintain close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information; seek input from all program staff.

External:    Maintains contact with outside services to assist in resolving problems and to publicize the Club.

**Applicant must complete and pass a CORI/SORI check.

LIFEGUARD


DEPARTMENT:  Aquatics
REPORTS TO: Aquatics Director
EXEMPT / NON-EXEMPT:   Non-Exempt
Work Hours: Part Time hours vary.  Hours available Monday thru Friday 2pm – 8pm and Saturdays.

JOB SUMMARY/PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.  Reports directly to the Aquatics Director.  May also receive feedback from the VP of Programming.

KEY ROLES: (Essential Job Responsibilities)

  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
  • Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Current certification in the following:

  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • First Aid

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must be enthusiastic, hardworking and be able to work with members of all ages. Must have prior experience as a lifeguard. 

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:    Maintain close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information; seek input from all program staff.

External:    Maintains contact with outside services to assist in resolving problems and to publicize the Club.

**Applicant must complete and pass a CORI/SORI check.
Pay dependent upon experience: $10/hr to $12/hr
